Types & Levels of EV Chargers

There are three types of residential charging stations that our team can install. For most homeowners, a Level I or Level II charger is more than sufficient for their needs. Level III chargers are better suited for commercial enterprises.

  • Level 1: These are essentially "plug in the wall" systems. They require a dedicated circuit and a GFCI protector to prevent electric shocks. These chargers will charge your vehicle at a rate of around 2.5 miles per hour of charging time. Most dealers provide you with a level 1 charger when you purchase your EV.
  • Level 2: These charge your vehicle using 240v equipment. They must be installed by a licensed and insured electrician and there are both indoor and outdoor options available. These vary in charging capacity, ranging from 10-60 miles per hour of charging time, meaning you can easily charge your vehicle overnight.
  • Level 3: These are commercial-grade systems and utilize between 50 kW to 400 kW of electricity to charge the vehicle. They charge vehicles at a rate of between 175-300 miles of range per hour of charging time. These types of chargers are only for commercial use, not residential.
