The END of NEM 2.0
As you may or may not have heard, the CPUC recently voted to accept an update to the current Net Energy Metering agreement, one which will have sweeping changes for the solar industry. This new agreement, called NEM 3.0, will officially go into effect after the 13th of April, 2023. That means that starting April 14th, when you make the switch to solar, you’d be signing up for net energy metering under the new agreement, which will reduce the value of your energy exports. There are positives to the new agreement, such as encouraging wider battery adoption and driving innovative system design, but the reduction in export value is not a pro customer change.
Simply Solar and many other providers fought hard to improve the new agreement as much as possible, rallying on multiple occasions to make the voice of our customers heard, and in the end, the positive aspects of NEM 3.0 are a result of that hard work and dedication. But given the impact on exports that remains, we would suggest that you take advantage of the current agreement while you still can.
