The great thing about solar energy is that there’s never a bad time to invest. Sure, the sooner you start saving, the better off you’ll be! But as prices rise and the need for clean, renewable energy increases, you’ll be getting a great deal by making the switch, whenever that may be. However, there is a time sensitive factor to your solar investment that you may not be aware of, one that will go away in the next few months. Solar is still going to be a great investment after this particular opportunity expires, but as your friendly neighborhood solar consultant, we would be doing you a disservice if we didn’t try to help you make the most of your investment. The key opportunity in question is, of course, NEM 2.0.
As you may or may not have heard, the CPUC recently voted to accept an update to the current Net Energy Metering agreement, one which will have sweeping changes for the solar industry. This new agreement, called NEM 3.0, will officially go into effect after the 13th of April, 2023. That means that starting April 14th, when you make the switch to solar, you’d be signing up for net energy metering under the new agreement, which will reduce the value of your energy exports. There are positives to the new agreement, such as encouraging wider battery adoption and driving innovative system design, but the reduction in export value is not a pro customer change.
Simply Solar and many other providers fought hard to improve the new agreement as much as possible, rallying on multiple occasions to make the voice of our customers heard, and in the end, the positive aspects of NEM 3.0 are a result of that hard work and dedication. But given the impact on exports that remains, we would suggest that you take advantage of the current agreement while you still can.
So, here’s what you can do to take advantage of our preferred agreement, and get the best possible value for your investment - you can sign up for solar now! Part of the new agreement is that any existing NEM 2.0 customers have their agreement honored for the next 20 years. This is a huge value for anyone wishing to achieve energy independence and protect themselves from rising electricity costs, and we advise anyone who is able to do so to make the switch now. Simply Solar is advising customers to secure their position on NEM 2.0 as soon as possible, given the anticipated rise in solar interest.
In order to ensure that we are able to secure NEM 2.0 applications for all those who want them, we will take NEM 2.0 applications up to March 15th. This deadline is incredibly important to remember, as we will use the extra time to ensure all applications are properly processed and filed, so be sure to mark your calendars and get in early if you can. To help you keep track of the NEM timeline, we’ve created a countdown clock that you can bookmark and follow along with. The page contains a helpful FAQ of additional information regarding the NEM decision, as well as resources for booking your very own free solar consultation.
NEM 3.0 is just around the corner, and across the industry, solar providers are working tirelessly to handle the rush of solar customers who want to secure their place in the current NEM agreement. In order to help those who are interested in making the switch as soon as possible, we have incredible, industry-defining financing options available, with the potential for $0 down, 0 interest solar with no payments for up to 18 months.
