The Solar Installation Process for Homeowners

The Steps Required to Install Each Part of Your Solar System

When you decide to make the switch to clean and affordable energy with solar panels, Simply Solar is here to help! Our team of solar experts and experienced installers has perfected the process of going solar to make it as easy as possible for our clients. It all starts with an initial consultation and then the system design and any necessary paperwork and permits. Once that is all finalized, we can start the actual installation.

At Simply Solar, we have honed our installation process to ensure you end up with the ideal solar system for your home. To install your solar panels, we will:

You Should Invest In High Efficiency Home Upgrades

Step 1: Select an Installation Location

For the greatest performance, your solar panels need to face south or slightly southwest. Our installers will evaluate your roof and nearby structures to determine the best installation site. Ideally, the solar system will be mounted to the roof of your home for the best solar coverage, but where necessary, other mounting options may be required, such as ground mounts or a solar carport.

Step 2: Prepare the Roof

To secure the solar panels to your roof properly, our installers will need to locate the rafters or trusses. Specialized water-proof mounting hardware will be installed that connects directly to the underlying framing, creating a secure base for the solar rack. A rack system will then be installed to secure the solar panels to the roof and provide for easy maintenance.

Step 3: Install the Solar Panels

Each solar panel will be mounted individually to the solar rack, using durable clips that slot into the solar rack for a strong, wind-resistant connection that keeps your solar panels secure. The panels will be arranged in the proper orientations to support easy wiring of the solar inverter or charge controller.

Step 4: Wire the Panels

The solar panels will be wired together in series to achieve the correct voltages for the selected solar inverter or charge controller. Combiner boxes will be added to join parallel strings where necessary, as well as all the required fuses, disconnects, and circuit breakers to comply with code and protect both the DC and AC connections.

Step 5: Adding Solar Batteries

If you have decided to add solar batteries to be able to use your solar power when the grid goes down or during cloudy days, our team will find the best location to mount them and integrate them into your solar system. We will wire them directly to your solar inverter or charge controller so that they charge automatically when the sun is shining, and we will connect all the fuses, disconnects, circuit breakers, and communications lines required to safely use and manage your solar battery system.

Step 6: Providing a System Overview

Once everything is installed and tested, our experts will explain how to use your new solar system, how to manage it effectively, and how to keep it maintained and working properly. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have about your solar installation and its components.
